USA Rules The Roost

Zap2It has an article on how USA's Summer Programming keeps the station hopping

USA's late-summer stranglehold on the cable ratings chart continued for the week ending Sunday, Aug. 22. The cable network may slump a bit with "Monk" ready to join "The 4400" and "The Dead Zone" in reruns, but since July, USA has dominated the lists.

MediaPost has an article talking about ratings and how hard it is to keep up with them.

Still, I'm sure "SportsCenter" picked up some points this summer. USA Network's "The Dead Zone" must have done well. FX's "Rescue Me" debuted to good ratings in the summer, yet I don't see it in these stories.

The Dead Zone SoundTrack Makes The Grade

The Kansas City Star gives a list of TV Soundtracks worth looking at.

The Dead Zone

(Lions Gate)

** 1/2

Not to be confused with “The Dead Zone: Music From Season One,” this compilation includes music “from and inspired by” the TV series. The only two songs on both are Jeff Buckley's stellar “New Years Prayer” and Anthony Michael Hall's cover of Leonard Cohen's “Hallelujah,” which is about four dollars short of Rufus Wain wright's money cover on the “Shrek” soundtrack. The rest is a decent mix of adult-contemporary rock and pop (Grant-Lee Phillips, Ron Sexsmith), alt-pop (Truman, the Woods), neo-punk (the Vandals) and funk-fried reggae/rap (Kia Kidari). The fish out of water here also delivers the album's standout cut: “Blind Pilots” from the Cooper Temple Clause, who cast some much-needed darkness on the edge of this bright, clean town.

“Golden State”

NY Daily News Find TV's Hidden Gems

The NY Daily News has a cute article that points out little hidden "funnies" in this summers TV Shows. The Dead Zone and Monk both get mentioned.

Peter F. Skokandich of Monsey noted that the title and author of the book read by a desk clerk in a recent episode of USA's "The Dead Zone" was "Thinner," by Richard Bachman.
"Richard Bachman," notes Skokandich, "is a name that Stephen King, who wrote the novel the 'Dead Zone' series is based on, wrote some novels under."

USA Is Still Hot This Summer/Touching Evil Not Going To See 2nd Season

USA's shows are doing so well that their ratings are every where.
Here are two seperate articles talking about their success, one tells of Touching Evil's ending

USA is pulling the plug on its freshman drama "Touching Evil," as a network spokesman confirmed earlier this week the cable channel will not renew the series for a second season.

The news comes as USA is experiencing record series numbers from its summer entry "The 4.400" as well as strong showings by regulars "The Dead Zone" and "Monk."

Here's Zap2it's report
USA had basic cable's three most watched shows. "The 4400" scored big with 6.13 million viewers to take the top spot. Second went to "Monk," which drew 5.77 million, while "The Dead Zone" held onto 4.64 million viewers from the "4400" crowd. Another episode of "The 4400" was No. 5 with 4.19 million.

Words From Lloyd On Instincts Very Special Guest Star

Lloyd Segan has written us once more at the Offical Dead Zone Site...alas, still now word on what's up with the finale, but there's a lot mention on the upcoming Instinct episode.

We also must mention an unusual, very special guest star appearing in "Instinct." I'm talking about a massive, half-ton (that's 1,000 pounds!) Kodiak bear (no, it's not a guy in a suit). This beautiful animal was an awe-inspiring sight to behold, with a head larger than my entire torso and a standing height of over twelve feet. And we think his performance is pretty great as well.

So far we've had a Walt episode with No Questions Asked a sort of closure episode with Speak Now and this one appears to be a Rev. Purdy episode...I wonder if we'll get the questions that we brought up in the Finding Rachel episodes answered in this one?

Dead Zone Makes It To TV Gal!

Zap2it's TV Gal runs a list of her fav, summer cable programing and guess who's on it!

"The Dead Zone": Now that Johnny is moving on with Jack Bauer's ex-girlfriend, the show has finally broken away from the Johnny/ Sarah/ Walt romance. Truly, there was nowhere for the show to go with a story line that was doomed to keep repeating itself. In its thriving third season, there have been great guest stars, compelling episodes (I loved the recent wedding episode), and new and surprising takes on Johnny's gift (he was able to stop a shooting at a high school by saving a young boy before anything happened to him). "The Dead Zone" is the rare series that seamlessly interweaves stand-alone episodes (watch Johnny save men trapped in a coal mine) with the ongoing arc of Johnny's fight to bring the evil Stillson down. However, unlike other cult, fantasy series such as "Alias," viewers can drop in any time and figure out the plot fairly quickly. "The Dead Zone" is a well cast, well acted series where all the parts (particularly the visually jolting special effects) work. And you don't need to be a psychic to know that.

Is The 4400 Here To Stay

The Boston Herald thinks it just might be.

The truth is out there.

USA Network's limited-run science fiction series ``The 4400,'' which concludes tonight at 9, is one of the biggest hits of the summer.

The penultimate episode last week attracted 6.5 million viewers. That's more viewers than the network's other hits ``Monk'' and ``The Dead Zone'' draw. The two-hour premiere on July 11 was the most-watched new series premiere on basic cable.

Although there's no word yet, with success like this, even conspiracy theorists can be certain that ``The 4400'' will return in some form.

Viewers who missed an episode or two can catch up with a ``4400'' marathon beginning today at 4 p.m.

This week's episode, entitled "Cycle of Violence," marks the return of Sarah Wynter in the role of Rebecca Caldwell. In addition to exploring her background as a counselor of troubled youth, it's also the continuation of a budding romantic relationship between her and Johnny Smith.

Directing this episode is a dear friend of The Dead Zone family and the person who cast the pilot. Her name is Ellie Kanner, and I hope you'll agree that she did an awesome job. "Cycle of Violence" guest-stars two tremendous talents -- Judge Reinhold and The Sopranos' Robert Iler. Dead Zone Makes It To The Watercooler!

TV Guide's Water cooler Talk finally has some word on the Dead Zone
If you haven't seen Speak Now, Then DON'T Read it!

Finally! After three years Johnny blurted it all out to Sarah: "What about the day you married Walt?... If someone had come up to you at your wedding and told you positively that I was going to wake up, what would you have done?... Would you have waited for me?"

Zap2It's TV Gal Talks About The Dead Zone!

Sarah Wynter returns to "The Dead Zone" this Sunday at 10 p.m. on USA. She'll also be back for the two-part finale on Aug. 22. Robert Iler, Anthony on "The Sopranos," also guest stars on this week's episode as a high school troublemaker. When I interviewed Iler at the start of "The Sopranos" season, he told me he would love to guest star on "The O.C." Ryan and Anthony, Jr. in a fistfight Orange County style. Now that would be some good times.

I wrote to TVgal to let her know about the schedule change...here's hoping she can get the scoop for us!

"Speak Now " Episode Follows On The Heals Of Shawn Piller's Own Marriage!

Lindsay Price

Trekweb.com reports that

Various STAR TREK personalities were on hand Saturday, July 31st, to celebrate the wedding of one of their own. Shawn Piller a TNG and VOY writer, and co-creator and supervising producer of THE DEAD ZONE, married actress and singer Lindsay Price over the weekend. They were married under the giant willow tree at the beautiful and exclusive Saddlerock Ranch in Malibu, California, under a brilliant blue sky.

Piller wrote the stories for TNG's "Journey's End" and VOY's "Death Wish" and "The Q and the Grey." Price has appeared in THE DEAD ZONE (playing "Sharon Weizak" in episode: "Netherworld" (episode # 1.8) ), BEVERLY HILLS 90210 and last fall's NBC sitcom COUPLING. Several hundred guests celebrated the nuptials, including STAR TREK producers Rick Berman, Brannon Braga, and Ira Steven Behr; DEAD ZONE stars Anthony Michael Hall and Nicole deBoer; Tom Welling (SMALLVILLE) and a variety of other industry insiders, friends and family.

Shawn's groomsmen included actors Chris Masterson and Danny Masterson (THAT 70'S SHOW). The best man was Lindsay's brother, Bryan Price. One of the bridesmaids was Shawn's sister, Brent Piller. Ironically, Sunday night's episode of THE DEAD ZONE was entitled "Speak Now" in which 'Johnny' (Anthony Michael Hall) must decide whether or not to stop a wedding. The episode featured the love song "Melting," written and performed by Lindsay Price, and currently available on THE DEAD ZONE soundtrack, available at TheDeadZone.net.

No Fantastic Four For Sarah

Sarah Wynter will not be in the Upcoming Fantastic Four movie. Jessica Abla of Dark Angel was the one that got the part.
Although filming doesn't start until next month, Alba has already gotten a glimpse of the skin-tight outfit she and her fellow cast members—which include Michael Chiklis (The Shield) as Ben Grimm/The Thing and Ioan Gruffudd (King Arthur) as Reed Richards/Mr. Fantastic—will be wearing. "I've tried mine on," she said. "And the zippers are on the inside. I was so scared. [The costumer] had to use a tool. ... The costumes are very cool. They are spandex, and we have gloves and boots ... and fours on our chests."

Another Cycle Of Violence Guest Star

Rafael Pellerin

Rafael Pellerin's info can be found at VADA.
One of his past credits was playing a principal on a Dead Like Me episode. In Cycyle of Violence, he will be playing Colin.

The Big Question's Answered!

Seems one of TDZ fandom questions may have found an answer.
The webmistress of The Dead Zone Fansite broke out the Season 2 DVD's and while watching discovered this little bit of info while watching the The Outsider with the commentary on.

I decided to watch it with the commentary, and am glad I did. At one point in the episode, Johnny pulls up in his Jeep at the pharmaceutical company security gate. At this point in the commentary, Craig Silverstein, who wrote the script, mentioned how they were going to get rid of Johnny's Jeep b/c "the clutch is rusty" and apparently it was dangerous for AMH to drive...

That may be the answer to what happened to Johnny's Blue Jeep!
