Stiers Comments on Oregon's New Ruling That Stops The Music

The Oregonean has an article on June's Ernest Bloch Music Festival and Oregon's new classification of musician's that will leave the event silent.

About 1,500 people attend the festival each year. Among the biggest draws is the regular guest conducting appearance by actor David Ogden Stiers, a part-time Newport resident.

"I'm really concerned that it's a bellwether for the business of the arts, generally which are fragile, increasingly fragile, simply because our audiences are dwindling and the amounts of money we raise are not in large blocks, but small from contributing sources that are narrowing," Stiers said.
