USA To Bring The Series Back To TV

The Philadelphia Inquirer has an article on USA's upcoming new series Kojack.

Kojak will be USA's fourth original series, along with Tony Shalhoub's hit Monk and The Dead Zone, both in their third seasons, and the returning sci-fi thriller The 4400.

USA is looking to make original series "the franchise," Wachtel says. "Series are what bring people back. They're the lifeblood of a successful network."

HAPPY BIRTHDAY

David Ogden Stiers turns 62 on Oct 31!

Scotsman Gives a review of The Dead Zone

I find it interesting to read a review from another countries point of view.

Still, at least the teachers were fairly normal, well-adjusted people. In other words, they were totally unrealistic. Most American TV-series characters are. I’m not knocking it. People who appear on telly or in films are our gods, our role-models and ideals. Sure, you can create ironic slobs and all the rest, but every show, no matter how postmodern, will have a handsome hero and a winsome wifie.

Dialogue, too, tends to be idealised, though this only reflects the fact that many Americans do actually live their lives as if they were in a film. Some of them even get to be president.

Thus one manly chap says to his missus: "Hey, what d’ya say we do a little snowboarding tonight, huh?" Then he kisses her on the cheek. In Britain today, such behaviour is grounds for divorce.

Anthony Michael Hall Still Dealing With Politics During Dead Zone Break

From The Daily Trojan News

In the second scene, Anthony Michael Hall (a long way from "The Breakfast Club"), playing Kushner himself, invited Bush herself to step onstage and discuss the play. Oscar-winner Sally Field strolled out as the second first lady, and the two launched into what were essentially parallel harangues for about fifteen minutes. The hostilities were interrupted only by the production's stage manager's (Charlayne Woodard of "Sunshine State") description of her dream of George W. Bush being all-but-lynched on the floor of the U.N. by the leaders of the world

The one-night-only event, which benefited the Democratic Party, attracted several stars.
It was a Republican's nightmare at the Ricardo Montalban Theatre Monday night as more Hollywood liberals than you could shake a stick at were gathered for a fundraising reading of Tony Kushner's "Only We Who Guard the Mystery Shall Be Unhappy." For Democrats, the performance, the star-studded cast and the packed house were a Fantasy Island.

Article on David Cronenberg

Full Story

There are few things more entertaining for a film critic than analyzing a David Cronenberg film. Most of his films can be classified as horror, a genre that works through the deep inner turmoil of humankind's fears and obsessions, all which makes for some thoughtful viewing. To top it off, he is a solid craftsman and a thoughtful filmmaker. Bad horror films are so easy to make that the genre tends to be dominated by hacks and clowns with no sense of timing, psychology or suspense. In that context, Cronenberg's dark vision of human nature seems almost refreshing.

Changes On The Dead Zone

From Scifi Wire

Dead Zone Gets New Boss

USA Network's original series The Dead Zone has tapped a new show runner and added to its producing/writing staff in anticipation of a longer-than-usual fourth season, Variety reported. Jack LoGiudice (Resurrection Blvd.) has been named show runner and executive producer of the top-rated USA drama, taking over from Karl Schaefer, who will stay on as an executive consultant, the trade paper reported.

USA ordered 22 new episodes of the show for its fourth season, up from the usual 13. Season three averaged 3.5 million viewers an episode. The series goes back into production next month, the trade paper reported.

Tommy Thompson (Dark Angel) has come aboard as co-executive producer, and Michael Taylor has been promoted to supervising producer. Loren Segan and Christina Lynch will serve as supervising producers, the trade paper reported. Shin Shimosawa and James Morris have joined the show's team of writers.

USA Network is owned by NBC Universal, which also owns SCIFI.COM.

More On Walken

Found some more on Around The Bend
Full Article
Despite an ornery, anti-social streak, Walken's character in the new film turns out to be a relatively nice guy. Ditto his characters in ``Man on Fire'' and ``Catch Me If You Can.'' Is this the dawning of a kinder, gentler Walken?

``Could be,'' he replies. ``But it also has something to do with age. I'm now at the place where I'm starting to play fathers and uncles -- and, in this case, a grandfather.''

Worse, a grandfather who's dying of kidney failure. Hence, the gray-green cast to his skin.

``I saw the movie and I thought, `Geez, you look terrible.' ''

He pauses, beams, then concedes, ``But it's a big juicy part. It's a leading part. And I don't do that a lot.''

Christopher Walken's New Movie Around the BendOpens Friday

Rated: R (for profanity, adult humor)

Cast: Christopher Walken, Josh Lucas, Michael Caine

Writer-director: Jordan Roberts

Running time: 1 hour, 25 minutes

Walken Gets Star

Also, Christopher Walken was honored in Hollywood, by puting left his hand and footprints at the fabled Grauman's Chinese Theater in Hollywood.
The 61-year-old Oscar winner says he stamped prints of dancing shoes into the theater's cement, recalling his childhood training as a dancer.

The ceremony coincided with the opening of Walken's latest film, "Around the Bend," about four generations of men in a broken family who reunite.

Walken's role in 1978's "The Deer Hunter" earned him an Academy Award for best supporting actor. He also was nominated for a 2002 Oscar for his performance in Steven Spielberg's "Catch Me If You Can."

Overall, he's starred in more than 50 films, including "Pulp Fiction," "Biloxi Blues," "Pennies from Heaven," "Man on Fire," and "Annie Hall."

Sarah Wynter's Fashion Blunder

The Boston Herald ran an article on Star's Fashion Blunders where Sarah Wynter made a cameo.

THOU SHALT NOT WEAR A FUR SCARF IN SEPTEMBER: ``24'' star Sarah Wynter attended the opening of ``The Ten Commandments'' in a white full-length fur scarf. It's hard to pull off any accessory that hangs from your neck to your knees, but this one looks ridiculous.
