Guilty Pleasures

TheOakland Tribune ran an article on guilty pleasure. It lists movies and actors that people secretly enjoy, although everyone else says their funky.

CHINS UP, shoulders straight, free at last, a handful of readers have written in to cleanse themselves of the guilt associated with loving movies or stars generally reviled by the rest of humanity. As promised in last week's guilty-pleasures column, here are their confessions: "Revenge of the Nerds," writes Judy L. of Fremont. "I laugh like crazy. And anything with the young Patrick Dempsey (older is good, too), especially as The Woo Woo Kid (in "In the Mood"), where he keeps marrying older women, and 'Loverboy.' I never miss the opportunity to see him and his mop of brown hair doing his Fred Astaire dance to 'They Can't Take That Away From Me.' Oh, and let's not forget 'Weird Science.'" Dempsey's not in the latter, but a young Anthony Michael Hall and the underappreciated Kelly LeBrock, a true guilty pleasure, are. "Many years ago my husband and I went to the second-run movie theater to see something like 'Il Postino,'" writes Colleen K. "Somehow we watched 'Ace Ventura: Pet Detective' instead. I sat through the opening credits thinking, 'wa happened?', not a little miffed. However, we both ended up guffawing through the whole unbelievably stupid movie. And saying every five minutes while laughing, 'This is sooooo stupid.' It's still stupid and it's still funny."

What's your Guilty Pleasures?
