Cable will be put to the test again when USA's "Dead Zone" and FX's "Shield" return for their second seasons this month. At least a dozen other new cable series get their start in January as well on TNN, Lifetime, ABC Family, MTV, Sci Fi Channel, Showtime, the Disney Channel and even the Weather Channel.
